Wine Veranda is a name of the small family-run winery in the region of Kakheti, the eastern part of Georgia. The area is also famous for being the cradle of wine because, thanks to its diversified geographical-landscape composition, it allows to grow a very wide variety of indigenous vines. The grapes which are cultivated by Wine Veranda are one of the famous Georgian indigenous kinds, the “Rkatsiteli”. The area is located in the territory of the Alazani Valley, at the point where the valley widens from 5-10 km to 35-40 km, on the left bank of the Alazani river (from which it takes the name the valley). This side of the river is situated at an altitude of 420 m, at the foot of the Greater Caucasus Mountain range. In fact, the name of the family celler comes for this particular view – on one side the snow-capped peaks and on the other the boundless green of the valley.

The wine celler in Georgian is called “Marani” and it is a fundamental component of the architecture of houses in Georgia. Each winery, according to the traditional Georgian wine production technique, has underground Kvevri (ceramic wine jar), of different sizes. At the moment, the Kvevri used by Wine Veranda are all old, some coming directly from the ancestors of the producers, others bought from families close to them. The producers of Wine Veranda belong to a very large and particular family, whose surname is Bezarashvili. In addition to having handed down wine production and cultivation techniques from generation to generation. They also descend from a long line of Georgian polyphonic singers well known throughout the Kakheti territory.

In Georgia, wine is a central aspect of the famous supra (literally “banquet”) performance, which is always accompanied by diners singing and improvising wonderful polyphonies. Therefore, participating in the supra with the Bezarashvili family who sings and offers their wine is a unique and magical experience.
