Shorena Pataridze

The Racha region is located in North-Western part of Georgia. The region is a mountain place in general but it is still differentiated with the high and low altitude. The higher part of the Racha region is considered the home of mineral water with up to 30 different types. However, this region is not only known for its waterways, but also for its mountainous and hilly nature, for its green forests and woods. As for the lower part of the region it is known with its unice autochthon grapes and outstanding wines as they are the Kvanchkara wine: a slightly sweet red wine, Tvishi — semi sweet white wine, Tsulukidzis Tetra – dry white wine etc.

The Pataridze winery is located in this lower part of the region and is a small family-run winery which cultivate the grapes at an altitude of 700 m that occupy those few pieces of land not covered by woods and forests. What it the particularity of Pataridze winery that makes it unique and different of those of the region is precisely the wine created by Mrs. Shorena Pataridze: Rachuli is a dry red wine that differs from the taste of Kvanchk’ara. Ms. Shorena in 2015 took up the traditional wine production technique that was handed down to her from the father and with her creativity and desire to experiment, she produced a dry red wine that reminds her of her childhood. The flavors and smells of home and her family. Pataridze’s Rachuli is prepared with the mixture of two different grape varieties. It consists with 50% of Aleksandrouli and 50 % of Mujuretuli grapes which are fermented and then macerated in her wine cellar. The wine is organic without additional sulphates and it is not filtered.

Shorena does produce only several thousand bottles a year. Despite this, her wine is already exported to the United States, France and Israel and since 2020 in Italy as well. Ms. Shorena, always in search of new ideas. In fact, since 2021 she produced dry rosé wine. In 2021 she also won a European project thanks to which she will have the opportunity to start producing white and amber wines.
